Saving your Tweezers...

How many of you go through endless pairs of tweezers?
Do you feel like you should have shares in a tweezer company?
Well we have some nice tips and tricks that can help extend the life of those wonderful tweezers!

Firstly when storing your tweezers in glass jars remember that if you place the tweezers in the jar you are going to be hitting the fine points on the bottom of the glass and blunting the tip each time you drop them in!

If you have your tweezers sitting in sterilization solution in your glass jar between clients then try putting a cotton pad or cotton balls in the bottom so that those fine points have a soft fully surface to land on!

The other problem tweezers seem to get is that they no longer meet at the tip. This can be due to any number of reasons but the best way to fix the problem is to get some fine grit sandpaper from your hardware store and fold it like in the picture. Then grab your tweezers and grip the tweezers onto the sandpaper and pull off. This will slowly file down the tweezers so that they have an even surface that will meet together again!

If you have any helpful hints tips or tricks please email us at info@hypnoticlashes.com so that we can share them with the lash world.... and we give credit to all our little lash fairies that write in!

Sensitive Clients With Sensitive Eyes..

We all have clients who are sensitive to glue. The level of sensitivity varies from person to person and you have to be aware and take precautions to avoid irritations.
A few things that will help are....

  • The adhesive (in my experience - no matter which one you use) will cause irritation to the eye if the eye is allowed to open or if it is not sealed correctly. The eye must stay sealed properly throughout the procedure and for at least 2 minutes (with the use of a fan of some sort as a final step - or 5-7 minutes without).
  • If the eye is closed (and stays closed) properly, how can the eye itself get irritated? It cant, plain and simple. Always ensure that you have a really good seal on the eye. This will prevent the fumes, if any, from getting in and affecting the membrane (whites of the eye).

There is something wrong with the seal of the eye if a client is having any negative sensations or problems. This happens to all of us .. we're going to get clients who's eyes water! If we're using eyepads properly, and not interfering with the eye closing properly by having eyepads getting in the way or taping an eye - especially upper eyelids! - so it is not closing naturally, then we're not to blame ... it can be the client who's eyes "flutter" thereby cracking open!.. or the chick who falls asleep on the table and her eyes pop open a bit... or the type of client who's eyes open slightly when they talk.

At no point in time should you allow your clients to open their eyes for any reason at all! This is when they are most likely to suffer a chemical burn and have what we all keep referring to as sensitive eyes!

Glues that are sold as sensitive are not referring to the sensitivity on the yes themselves but that of the skin. In saying this at not point in time should you be getting any product what so ever on the skin. The obvious exception to this is tape.

If you feel that you, as the stylist, are becoming sensitive to the glue you use then you should be wearing a mask and also specs, to at the very least protect yourself from day to day exposure.

For your clients, the best thing you can do as their stylist is ensure a really great seal of the eyes. Dont allow them to open during the procedure and always give a good amount of time at the end to dry.

Cleaning Eyelash Extensions

To all the clients out there who wear mascara on their ELE... you must know how to clean your lashes in order to prevent infections and to assist with general ELE hygiene.

A great way to care for your natural lashes as well as your ELE is to wash them in a warm water solution of baby shampoo and water mix. Another great idea is to purchase one of our Foamy Bottles to put the water and shampoo mix in so that it foams up perfectly where ever you are.
These can be brought here: Foamy Bottles or check out the website at www.hypnoticlashes.com under accessories.

Take you Foamy Bottle and mix:
1 part baby shampoo (no tears)
3 parts Water
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

Wash your ELE's daily with upward strokes letting the foamy soap clean between your lashes and getting rid of any buildup. Rinse well with warm water. When drying your eyes make sure you are not too rough with the ELE's and do not use any materials that will get caught in your ELE's such as cotton pads or furry cotton buds. You are best to use a towel that has no loose threads and gently pat your eyes dry ensuring nothing gets caught on the lashes.

If your lashes are tangled or crossed over, use the Spoolie given to you at your appointment to gently brush them straight and put them in place. In between fills if you feel that they are crossing over, you can  purchase a longer life coating to use on the lashes to keep them in place.

If you find that you still need to use mascara ensure that it is a water based mascara and that you are removing all traces of make up each time it is worn. This also aides in preventing infections and extends the longevity of the ELE's.

Products mentioned above can be all be brought here:

Taping - Some quick Tips

Below are some handy images for taping. The photos are of an infill client that has had lashes on for 4 weeks. I use three different methods to show you how it can be done. Personally I only use the Nexcare tape method as it has less irritation and better results.

The first is the original V tape method. 2 small strips of micropore tape are cut for each eye. You should stick them to the back of your hand a few times before placing them on clients eyes as they have quite a bit of stick and can pull and irritate skin if placed straight onto the client.
Start at the outer corner of the eye and place tape down.

Place the second piece of tape from the inner corner to the middle to form a V.
Make sure you have caught all the bottom lashes in the tape.

The second method is the tape and gel pads. You tape as above then apply the gel pads over the tape. as you can see I always place my gel pads quite a bit lower than the tape as they can cause irritation when placed too close to the eye, especially if the client has naturally watery eyes.

This is an example of how NOT to place gel eyepads!

The final taping is using my preferred method - the tape cutting tutorial is here:
Tape Cutting Tutorial
The benefits of this method are that the tape is hypo allergenic - which means no allergies. They are also big enough for you to wipe excess glue on, and your tweezers will not pierce the tape in the event that you press on it.
I recommend using a swipe of Vasoline under the eyes prior to placing the tape so that there is no discomfort when removing.
